Finally, an update

September 03, 2008 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

Last time I posted on this page was months ago. I haven't really felt like updating at all plus whenever I go to type I forget all of the interesting things I wanted to say. This looks like it's one of those updates.

Let's see, this summer...this summer...

This summer I came home from school and I basically took it easy for two weeks. I relaxed, drove around a lot, and slept. It was excellent but uneventful. Then I began working at Mattei's again. For those who don't know, I've been working there for about 4 years (exactly four years on October 2nd), I go back there and visit every time I come home from school for the weekend. I love the place. This summer, however, I think I am finally sick of working there. I might go back and work there over winter but I think this was my last summer working at Mattei's. I just hope they'll still let me go to the company picnics even though I'll be done working there. Besides working, I basically hung out wh my girlfriend Katie every night, occasionally also hanging out with some other friends but rarely. The last few weeks I stopped working at Mattei's and decided to do a lot of stuff before I left for school. I started painting my walls in my room, although I only painted three out of four and am still undecided about the ceiling. I went hiking several times, had a bunch of campfires at my house which were all a lot of fun, drove everywhere around where I live, and went on various day trips such as the Shoreline Trolley Museum and the Thimble Islands. That's about all there was to my summer.

I'm taking Political Science, Geology, History, Statistics, and Sociology this semester. Sociology is basically one of those classes where no matter what happens, they still find something wrong with society. Not the most enjoyable class. So far school has been fun. It looks like it's going to be another good year.

My_birthday_2008_103

First off, it's been a good month for taking pictures.

Okay, I know I haven't posted in a while, so let's see if I can remember everything that I have done over the past month. My birthday was on the 17th, so my mom drove all the way up to UConn to visit me. We got lunch at this restaurant which was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was also nice to eat somewhere new. Afterwards, we got some ice cream at the dairy bar, which I think has some great ice cream and I believe my mom agreed. When we were done eating, we drove all over looking for a volleyball but of course no one has a volleyball, not even a sports store. Go figure. Anyway, it was really fun and I filled my mom in on how everything has been going and it was really nice that she came up and I appreciate it a lot. Umm after that, I went out and took some pictures with Katie. Only the last one is a result from that day.

The weekend before that, I went home because my dad bought us tickets to go see Young Frankenstein on broadway. So we went to NYC and walked over to the show. It was my first Broadway show so I was very excited. The show was hilarious! I loved the Producers when it came out and I think that Mel Brooks did an even better job turning this movie into a musical. I was laughing nonstop the entire show. Sure, there were plenty of dirty jokes which isn't the most comfortable thing to sit through with a parent, but what else can you expect from Mel Brooks? Anyway, everyone else in the theater loved it too. I thought it was great. After that, we walked around the city and got lunch at Pax on the corner of Bryant Park. I think Bryant Park might be one of my favorite places to go in the city. Once we finished eating lunch, we took a subway over to ground zero because my dad had not been there since 9/11. This was my third time visiting and I noticed that they have definitely made progress but it seems like they just divided the whole in the ground in half and have just neglected one half of it while building on the other side. Anyway, from there, we walked down the street where we saw St. Paul's chapel which is the oldest church in Manhattan. The cemetary of the church (which is directly across the street from ground zero) was not the slightest bit harmed from the wreckage and rubbel from 9/11. I thought that was very amazing. We proceeded to walk across the street to the park outside City Hall, which I had never been to before. It was a really nice park and the architecture of all the buildings around that area are really nice. The park had gas lit lamps which both my dad and I thought were pretty cool. After sitting there for a little while, we rushed back on the subway to Grand Central and went home.

Besides that, I can't really think of any eventful parts of the month that are worth mentioning. School is over in two weeks and then I'm coming home for the summer and probably working at Mattei's.

at So, I've decided to type up some of my plans for the future so I get them done.  After the more immediate plans, I included a sort of a check list of stuff I want to do before I die, which I got the idea from Sean a couple years back and have decided to post it here. Not all of the things on the checklist I expect to do. Most of them I probably won't. But if I have it written down, there is more chance that I will get them done.

I want to save up money for a few things: an external camera flash, Xbox 360, tripod, a 3 or 4 day trip to Peru (more specifically Machu Pichu and the city of Cusco) that I want to visit within the next two or three years, at least a weeklong trip back to Ireland and possibly also Liverpool in England two summers from now, and I want to save up enough money to buy another car in case mine ever randomly stops working and I'm left without a car. Winter Break

January 13, 2008 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

So I haven't been posting very much on this site anymore. I just don't have too much to say on here. I usually just like uploading photos. I guess I haven't been doing too much during vacation except hanging out with Katie. I went to East Rock in New Haven this week and that was pretty fun though. Besides that I went to Osbornedale with Katie, Meche, and Andrew to take some pictures. I think they turned out pretty well. Besides that, I haven't done much. I wish I still had a job because that occupied my time. Although I did go to NYC with Katie today. We met up with my friend K Fus and walked along 5th Ave. to Central Park where we walked over to Strawberry Fields and the Dakota.

Following that we stopped at FAO Schwarz, split up with K Fus and his friend Michelle, and we went to the Empire State Building. The only other time I had been on that was during the day, and I found the view to be much more beautiful at nighttime with all of the lights of the city. I have to say, New York City is definitely my favorite place in the world to go to. I've noticed there are two kinds of people. The kind that love NYC and the kind that hate NYC. I'm one of those people who completely loves is and thinks it is the greatest place in the world. I mean, I've travelled a lot. I've been to a lot of major cities including London, and I still think NYC is the greatest place in the world. The architecture, the atmosphere, the crowds...I even love the nasty smell of the city and the rude attitudes. I think that it is perfect for me because I prefer the fast paced New York way of doing things.

Also, since I've been really bored during vacation, I can't wait to go back up to UConn. It's nice that whenever you want to hang out with someone, there is always someone down the hall to hang out with. Anyway, here are some pictures from the past week.

This is Meche. Definitely one of my favorite people.

I know I haven't posted in a long time but I really haven't had much to post. Finals start on Monday. Tonight in 13 minutes at 10:00 P.M. quiet hours begin. They last 24/7 until the end of the semester. This means that basically I can't be as loud as I usually am and have to keep my door closed so I don't disturb anyone else who is studying. I don't like being quiet. Especially keeping my music at a tolerable level. Luckily throughout the rest of the semester, nobody cares.

It snowed this morning. It covered the ground pretty fast. Ummmmm, I went ice skating with Kate Liz and Ryan. It was pretty fun. I am terrible at it though but whatever.

Gelfest

I got back from Spanish last night, and I decided to see what I would look like if I attempted to gel my hair. Well, my hair was too short to really do anything with it, but after gelling my hair, my roommate gelled his. Then, since we were bored we basically dressed in anything we could find. Ties, long dress socks, etc. Anyway, it was really random and a lot of fun. It was also a little embarassing whenever people walked by that have never seen us before. Anyway, I haven't had much to post recently. I've just been going to class, doing my homework, and that's about it. There really hasn't been too much to say, although I am considering majoring in history and secondary education to be a history teacher. I don't know though, because I find it hard to imagine myself being a teacher, but I really love history and I wouldn't really want any other job that has to do with history so I'm not sure yet. But I'm definitely leaning towards it. Here are some more pictures from last night and also a halloween picture since my parents didn't get to see my costume. I was Mark Antony while Kate was Cleopatra.

That's all for now. I'm coming home in one week for the entire Thanksgiving week. I guess other schools are only getting half that time off so I'm lucky that I get to rest longer.

Sunday was pretty fun. I jsut kinda hung out, Kate's mom came up to drop off her sister Liz, so Kate, Liz, her boyfriend Ryan, Mrs. Bowman, and I all got dinner. After dinner I went and played soccer with Kate and three other people. It was a lot of fun and I was so exhausted. I'm in such bad shape haha.

On Monday I didn't have any classes. Everyone else did. So Monday was mostly relaxing for me. I ended up having to study a long list of vocab words for Spanish. Then yesterday I had a Spanish quiz that I was freaking out about. It was pretty easy. Then I found out that I have a Spanish midterm next week. Woo!

The weekend

October 03, 2007 // 2 Comments  // Add yours »

So over the weekend I went home and visited. I stopped by Mattei's Deli and hung out there for an hour, visited my grandparents who were really happy to see me, went to Kettletown State Park, then came home for some Halo 3. The following day was my mother's birthday so we all went out to eat at Olive Garden and then I came back up to Uconn.

Anniversary

September 24, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

Sunday was Kate and my first year anniversary. We didn't really see each other all morning and afternoon and around 4:30 we met up and walked over to this French music thing at the school's museum of art. Both of us were dressed up because I was treating Kate to dinner afterwards plus we figured this show we should be dressed up for anyway. Kate was much more dressed up than I was, and I think she looked stunning. She should definitely dress up that much more often. She looked really classy. Anyway, I thought that the show would be like some original music that I had never really heard with people sitting down and playing instruments like horns and violins and whatnot. When we got there, we saw that it was going to be quite different. There was a pianist, a soprano and a tenor. The tenor was okay, he actually sounded French. The soprano however, was a different story. She sounded just like every female opera singer you will ever hear. She could be singing in Italian, or any language and it wouldn't have made a difference. She warbled the whole time and it was terrible, and the entire time she sang she made these terrible faces like she was constipated and wanted to cry but couldn't. We left after the first hour and a half, which was the intermission.

Once we left, we walked over the Chuck and Augie's (the nice restaurant on campus) and we had a really nice dinner. After dinner we went on a walk around campus and sat on a bench in this nice park-like area under some trees and just talked for about an hour or an hour and a half. It was really nice. Then we hung out at my dorm for a while with my roommate and then once it got late, we took another long walk back to her dorm where I dropped her off. When I came back, my roommate and I stayed up listening to some Reggaeton which we think is hilarious, and watching videos of people dancing on youtube to the music that we were playing. We might have found it so funny because of how tired we were. Who knows. Anyway, I got tired and went to sleep. The End!

The Big E

September 24, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

Img_5933

On Saturday, Kate and I took a school trip to the Big E. It was Kate's first time going there, I have gone there basically every year for as long as I can remember with the exception of last year.

Welcome to Eastern States Exposition and The Big E
For 17 days each September, Eastern States Exposition is proud to host the largest fair in the northeast, The Big E, in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
Check out what's going on at the Exposition the rest of the year. Hosting more than 100 events, there are many reasons to visit us all year long.

Kate's favorite part by far was seeing all of the animals at the petting zoo, the horses, sheep and cows, and especially the hatching chicks which I did not get any pictures of. They were really cute. They were full of life and energy running into each other just because they could. I was able to see a couple cracked shells with some beaks popping out. My favorite part is the same as always, I love going to the buildings for the states and getting the Finnish pancakes from the Massachusetts building and the blueberry pie from the Maine building. Maple candy and all of that is also great at the Big E and it is the main reason I like going. This year though, I also really enjoyed the little area that is like a colonial town. It has two old houses, one a farmer's and one a rich man's house. There is also a small one-room school, a church/meeting place, an old tavern, a blacksmith, and a lawyers office. All of these buildings are situated around a small green. This place is nice, not just for it's historic content, but because it is a nice break from the rest of the Big E. The rest of the Big E is like a big carnival or fair, while this area is like a little town. It is a nice place to sit and rest if you are tired from the day. You can lay in the grass and take a nap.

Img_5989This was the meeting house. The inside is very uncomfortable and the benches are straight up. I think they are made like that so no one will fall asleep.

Img_5988_2

At the end of the day, we headed back home. I was completely worn out from the whole day.

I dont know

September 22, 2007 // 1 Comments  // Add yours »

Today I had class, etc. Had a paper due today. I had it all typed up and went over to breakfast and rushed over to class completely forgetting to print the paper up. So I was freaking out during class the whole time hoping that my TA wasn't going to leave campus after class (she lives 2 hours from here) but thankfully she was here until one so I dropped off my paper in her mailbox. If i hadn't been able to get it to her, I would have lost a half letter grade for each day that it was late and since I wouldn't be able to get it to her until Tuesday, that would be two full letters off the grade. Luckily that isn't the case.

After class, I walked over to meet Kate after her class and we hung out at the farms again to look at the fatty cows and gross sheep. No pictures this time since I'm sure that I posted enough of the farm animals from last time. Anyway, after that we got some ice cream at the UConn dairy bar where they make their own ice cream from the milk they get from the fatties.

Tonight we went over to the Student Union for Late Night (it's something they have every friday night from 9-1 to give students an alternative to going out and drinking) and they had a drag show going on (guys dressed up in women's clothing) and we thought it would be weird but it was actually pretty funny. We stayed for like five minutes and then walked around to see what else was there this week. Some of our friends sang karaoke. It was fun. Tomorrow Katie and I are going to the Big E. We are taking a bus leaving from the school. I expect to post about that tomorrow.

Another Post Another Day

September 13, 2007 // 3 Comments  // Add yours »

In response to Randy's comment, I do have classes up here at UConn but I don't feel like talking about them on this page. I go to class, I learn, I do the work. Occasionally I might have something small to say about a class or two but not much. That's not why I wanted this page. But speaking of classes, I met my Spanish teacher for the first time on Tuesday. She was in Spain for the past two weeks so we had a substitute. So our class meets her and no one can understand her accent. None of us are used to Spanish accents. We are used to Mexican, Puerto Rican, or Ecuadorian accents around Derby along with smaller groups of Spanish-speakers like such as people from Guatemala or the Dominican Republic. Anyway, our teachers always avoided teaching us words such as "vosotros" in high school They told us what it meant but they avoided it because most Spanish-speaking people in America are from Latin America. So my teacher is from Spain and she used a lot of words like that. She also pronounced letters different than others. It was very difficult the first day but now she knows our level of understanding and she slowed down for us, and we also learned how she was going to be for now on. So it appears to be getting better.

Anyway, yesterday we had the fire alarm go off twice in our dorm. The second time I wasn't there for, and I'm not sure why they had the first one. Someone must have burnt popcorn or something. Later, at night, I got out of my Spanish class and met up with a bunch of people from Derby High School that were up here visiting for the UConn/Hofstra men's soccer game.

Chris_kal_kissing_christine_3 Chris Kal and Christine Smey came up from Hofstra,

while other friends Mike Matosian, Steve Costantini and

James HomaHome_thumbs_up_4 came up for the game also. Meanwhile, DHS students that are currently attending UConn from our graduating class also met up. These people were Kate her sister Liz Bowman, her boyfriend Ryan O'Connell, Christina Sutay, Alex Bansak and later, Kristen Smith. We all went for dinner at the Northwest Dining Hall. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to see everyone again and get them all together. After dinner, everyone said goodbye and that's about it.

I hate coming up with titles.

September 10, 2007 // 5 Comments  // Add yours »

Today I woke up late. My roommate Rod had his friend come over the night before and he slept over. So we all woke up around 11 and they left for breakfast over at South while I met up with Kate and got breakfast at McMahon. I prefer McMahon for breakfast for some reason. Anyway once we were done eating we came back to my dorm to meet up with Rod and his friend Omeed. His friend is hilarious. He is one of those people who says funny things at the right time, like someone will be talking and he'll be quiet the whole time and then at like the perfect spot he'll just join in with a one-liner and it will be so funny. He kind of reminds me of Sean and Justin's friend Dave Tomczak by the way he talks. Anyway, soon after, our friend Jake stopped by and we all hung out here at my dorm. Jake is really good at playing guitar and he taught himself Norwegian Wood by the Beatles and I am really jealous. BUT, I'm trying to teach myself Calico Skies and Jenny Wren by Paul McCartney. I can play some of the parts but not all of them. It will take much more practice.

After a while, Rod's sister came up and hung out with all of us for the day. We all took a walk over to the UConn Dairy Bar where they make their own ice cream and sat around talking. These people ar hilarious, it was so much fun. Then we hung out at the dorm some more and then got dinner. The whole day, Rod and Omeed were arguing over who had better calves. At the ice cream place they asked this young lady and this old lady who had bigger calves. They both said that Rod did. Then they asked who had better looking calves and they chose Omeed. Then they decided to ask what they thought if I was in the mix too. They both said mine were the best. Excellent. I have good calf muscles. Well-defined. Great Success! Then at dinner, we noticed that my roommate shaves his armpit hair. We all thought it was weird for a guy to do that and he was like, "It helps bring out the shape of your muscles more." He is big into working out, by the way. So anyway, he asked this lady walking by what she thought and she said she didn't have a preference really but she didn't think that it was weird. So she left, and when she came back to her table with some food she walked over and said that she had changed her mind and that she was siding with my roommate.

So after that, Jake left and went back to his dorm and soon after that, Omeed went home. Then we all still hung out and then Rod's sister left. It started getting late so I walked Kate back to her dorm and said goodnight. That's about it for the day. I finally typed more than a couple sentences about my day...and no pictures this time either.

Then we went home to Derby for the weekend and Saturday morning, I went out to lunch with my parents and then that same night I had some people over to play some Call of Duty 2 with a few friends. Steven Sobczynski, Krzys Fus, Glen Espin and Katie Bowman. It was a lot of fun and Glen's hair is really, really long.

First Day of Classes

So today was my first day of college classes. I had math at 12 so it was much later than everyone else. I had plenty of time to relax before class whereas everyone else had to wake up really early. It was great. Then I had a few hours before the next class to eat and relax. I went to my English class next in an incredibly old building that was only supposed to be temporary until the end of World War II but of course they didn't get rid of it, I end up having most of my classes in that building. No air conditioning, no space, fantastic. Buttttttt...it's right near my dorm so it's in the perfect location. After classes my dad stopped by and picked up some check I had to give him, and he left pretty quickly (he had to go home and make dinner and home is an hour and a half drive from here). I had a quick dinner and then ran back to my dorm for a floor meeting.

Afterwards, I did my short homework assignment and went on a nice romantic walk around campus with my girlfriend Katie. It was really nice. I was able to take a couple pictures even though she hates my camera.

First day at college.

I woke up this morning and packed for UConn. It's amazing how I am so used to packing in such a short amount of time. I didn't have a single thing ready last night and I ended up packing more than I needed in just a couple hours. I am all set for all semester. So we drove up here and unloaded the stuff in my dorm. My dorm is probably the crappiest dorm on campus. I say this after seeing a few other people's dorm rooms. The rooms are TINY. Everyone else's is bigger. Once I got organized the room is a lot better now. I can definitely live her and be comfortable. I think we are gonna change the beds around though cause right now they are bunked and I just know that at some point I am going to fall off so we are trying to figure out the best way to organize everything. My roommate Rod Taheri is cool. I doubt I'll have any problems with him.

After my parents left, we organized our rooms more, and then we went to the Student Union (the main hangout place for all the students) for some events. I stood in line with Katie for an hour to get a tiny microscopic fish. Then I got some ice cream and we went on a walk and then hung out with my roommate in our dorm for a little bit and then the three of us walked over to Subway and had a sandwich. After we ate, I walked Katie back to her dorm and dragged myself back to mine. My feet our killing me. And oh yeah, I found out today that my old camera, the good ol' reliable one, finally went crazy. It doesnt really work anymore. This upsets me because we've been through many good times together. What a day. So anyway here's three pics I took a few minutes ago.

Last Day

August 23, 2007 // 3 Comments  // Add yours »

Today is my last day before going away to UConn and leaving Derby. It probably won't hit me that I'm leaving until the second that I leave the house and say goodbye to the dog. That's how it is all the time. I'll be fine though because I'm used to being away from home for long periods of time because of all of the trips I go on.

Today I hung out with Katie. We ran some errands and ate some lunch at Indian Well State Park in Shelton. I took some pictures there. Then she went home and I started getting ready.
