The Beach Boys... sort of.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to see The Beach Boys perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The only problem was that the only original member that performed with the group was Mike Love, so it would be more appropriate to say that I saw one of the Beach Boys in concert. There was another guy there that used to go on the road with the Beach Boys following Brian Wilson's departure from touring named Bruce Johnston, but I wouldn't count him as an original. Nevertheless, the show was great. I've been a Beach Boys fan my whole life so it was really cool to hear the songs played live. Mike Love was the lead singer on half of their major hits so it wasn't too big of a disappointment that the other originals weren't there. For some reason the crowd was extremely stiff and unresponsive. Hardly anybody sung along, stood up, or danced. That bothered me, as I was hearing some of the greatest pop singles of all time being performed live and there was barely any reaction to it. But I guess when you go to a concert where 90 percent of the crowd is 65 and older that kind of thing happens. Now I just need to see Brian Wilson perform.
After the show we walked around the smoke filled casino for a while and then stopped in some BBQ restaurant for dinner. It was a good way to spend a fake holiday.
