Another great Christmas

This Christmas was fantastic. Thanks to a long weekend off from work I had a ton of time to relax with Kelly and both of our families. Kelly gave me a new flash for my camera along with some ultra-cool Beatles Sgt. Pepper's art that I plan on putting up in my cubicle and.... BACON FLAVORED CANDY. I also picked up a tripod and really cool ukulele. Not bad! Between all the parties, cookies and ham Kelly and I took it easy, did some wedding-related planning and listened to music. Such a great few days.

Our dog Gracie really seemed to get into a BBC documentary about Yellowstone that we were watching. Sorry Gracie, but you'd never fit in with those wolves.

Gracie's Pugz

Gracie got an early chance to try out her Pugz when we had a freak snowstorm in October. As you can see in the video she felt a bit weird with boots on her feet, but we're hoping she'll get used to them as the winter goes on.
After posting this video on YouTube we were contacted by the company that created the Pugz for permission to use Gracie in one of their advertisements. Of course we agreed. Video coming soon!

We're Engaged!

Just went on the trip of a lifetime - a ten day long tour of Ireland with the love of my life... and came back engaged!
It was on the second to last full day of our trip when I proposed. We had taken a boat out Inishmore, one of the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway, and biked our way out to the "Man of Aran Cottage" where we stayed for the night. Man of Aran is modeled after the old fashioned thatched roof cottages that were once common in Ireland, but was actually built in the 1930's for the documentary "Man of Aran".
Arriving at the cottage via bike
Our view while we enjoyed some wine in the backyard
Joe Watty's - best pub on the island
Walking up the trail to Dun Aengus, an ancient fort built around 900BC alongside an extremely high cliff... and where I proposed.
Kelly lovingly scaring the sh*t out of me
I could see the headlines - "Woman falls off cliff to her death seconds before boyfriend proposes"...
Fortunately she stepped far away enough from cliff where I could feel safe enough to get down on one knee and ask her to marry me.. and SHE SAID YES!!!
After we got back I did some reading about the place and learned that the name Dun Aengus translates to Fort of Aengus. Aeungus was the pre-Christian god of love, youth and poetic inspiration. The myth says he had four birds flying about his head, which supposedly is where the xxxx's symbolizing kisses at the end of love letters come from. Cool!
Couldn't be happier!

This blog is not dead yet

This past year I nearly abandoned this blog, not because I didn't want to keep it up to date, but because I just never seemed to find the time. Since early this summer I've become very busy working on projects and enjoying life in between, so there never seems to be time to sit down and recap. There's lots of stuff to cover though, so I plan on slowwwwly backdating posts. I'm also planning a re-design in the coming months along with an updated and expanded portfolio, with more focus on the design marketing work I do.
To get started again with the "life upates".. here's a few pics from two of the past three "Snowpocalypses" we've had.

This was taken from the overlook at Little-Laurel Lime Ridge in Seymour while hiking this past weekend. It's one of my favorite views in the valley and another reason why I love Connecticut.

The Perseid Meteor Shower from Goshen

Knowing the Perseid Meteor Shower was supposed to peak last night, a few friends and I packed into my brothers car and took the hour long drive up to a field in Goshen, CT to watch the show from one of the darkest night skies in the state. I didn't get the shots I had hoped for, but it was still a great time, and I did catch a meteor or two.

Memorial Day Weekend in Acadia National Park
June 01, 2010 //

A few friends and I spent the weekend in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Maine. I was blown away by the scenery and never thought something like that was so close to me here in New England.
If you haven't been to Acadia National Park, make the trip. It doesn't get the publicity some of the larger parks out west do, but it's just as impressive. One tip: if you go, drive the loop just after sunrise. This way you'll miss the crowds and have the park to yourself.
The single most impressive/mind blowing sunrise I've ever seen from the top of Cadillac Mountain -one of the first spots in America to see the sun rise each morning.
The sunsets weren't half-bad either. We enjoyed it from a 3-mast schooner.
One disappointment - there aren't many moose strolling around on the coast of Maine.. at least not at Acadia National Park. To make up for this sad fact we swung by the Maine Wildlife Park on the way home and finally, after 26 years of life, I finally saw one.

Moose Country

My brother Kevin and I took the weekend to drive up to what we were told was Moose Country - the Great North Woods region of northern New Hampshire. We stopped at a few spots in the White Mountains along the way. While no moose were ever found, we still had a great time.
