"Hell House" in Seymour

February 02, 2009 // 8 Comments  // Add yours »

(Note: Since posting this blog, local residents have informed me that the house is actually located in Seymour, so the title of this post has been adjusted accordingly.  Please refrain from posting directions or an address.)

I was a bit surprised to find out that the town I live in, Derby, CT, was once the setting for an episode of the Discovery Channel's A Haunting.  The episode, titled "Hell House", told the story of the Beckwith family who supposedly began seeing ghosts and other strange phenomena shortly after moving to a new home.  Local ghost hunters Ed & Lorraine Warren were called in to help along with other  "paranormal investigators", and an exorcism was performed.

I particularly enjoyed the line: "Today, in the historic towns of Seymour and Derby, the legions of dead beneath the land far outnumber the living."  Spooky...

PS: This is my 500th post since starting this blog!

Google gets interactive

November 21, 2008 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

Forgive the nerdiness of this post, but I'm a pretty big Google advocate and thought this was exciting.  Last night they announced "SearchWiki", a new feature that allows you to edit your search results when logged into your Google account.   If you like a result, you can set it so it shows up first every time.  If you don't like a result, you can remove it permanently.  The new function also allows you to leave comments on results that everyone will be able to see.   As an SEO, it's hard to tell what the impact will be, but I think this could possibly cause some headaches.  As a user, I think it's a good thing.  What it should do is force those publishing on the web to try even harder to make their content valuable.  Spammy sites will suddenly lose a lot of their punch because people will remove them from their results or warn others not to visit.

SearchWiki

Of course I expect that you'll all give me positive feedback when leaving comments.  Also noticed that I'm showing up in Google Suggest.  Small stuff, I know.

Thank-You Card

My friend's father once received this card after pet-sitting for some neighbors.  I can assure you that he had absolutely nothing to do with Spot's unfortunate and untimely passing.

Scrooge Me: Commercialism at its best

December 07, 2007 // 2 Comments  // Add yours »

Scrooge Me

There's two new websites out there that let you turn yourself into a dancing Scrooge or a bunch of crazed dancing Elfs.  It's just a clever way for Office Max to make a few extra bucks this holiday season, but I think it's great.  They make for great email-able Christmas cards.  Click the links below to see mine or to try it out yourself.

If you set one up of your own, let me know by leaving a comment on this post.  Looking forward to seeing a few!

Reach me through Skype

November 22, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

I suck at answering emails.  And I'm sick of giving out my personal cell phone number.  I've realized that I need a way to separate the personal calls from the business calls/etc, so I've decided to set up a second line that I can make available here.  This way anybody who finds this website and wishes to contact me will have a way to do so beyond email.  There's a US #, an Ireland #, and the UK # will be set up shortly.

USA: (203) 903-0558   Ireland: 061 748 051   Skype: SeanP284

I've set these numbers up through Skype.  It works just like any normal land line would, and it doesn't cost any money to call as long as you're either calling locally or have a free long distance calling plan.

I'm an ENFJ

October 24, 2007 // 2 Comments  // Add yours »

I took that Myers-Brigs personality test and it said that I have an ENFJ personality type- which stands for extraverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging.  Here's one website's analysis of an ENFJ:

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it's usually not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.

ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability.

ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don't resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.

ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

Some famous ENFJ's: Abe Lincoln, Sean Connery, Ronald Reagan, Johnny Depp, Oprah Winfrey, and Dick Van Dyke.  My problem with this: no negatives.  It paints too nice a picture.  Makes it hard for me to believe in it.  I'd trust it more if somebody who knew me very well answered the questions for me.  Give it a try it yourself

Paul McCartney's Ecce Cor Meum on DVD

October 23, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

Paul McCartney at Carnegie Hall © SeanHenri.com

Footage from the world premier performance of Paul McCartney's "Ecce Cor Meum" comes out on DVD  this November 20th.  I don't tend to listen to much classical music but I found this to be quite good.  So good I went to go to see the US premier at Carnegie Hall last November. Of course there were a few other factors in my decision to go see it, one being that this guy was a part of the most important band that ever existed, and I must admit I'm a big fan.  But seriously, I think it's worth a good listen.  It's fantastic stuff.  So pick this sucker up.

Update: The release of Paul's Ecce Cor Meum DVD has been put back until early 2008. Dates are currently being rescheduled, but a February/March release is most likely.

On another totally unrelated yet somewhat similar note:   If you like good music I'd suggest listening to Silverchair's "Young Modern".  I was a bit skeptical about how much I'd like it after seeing the very bland / pop-like video for the song Straight Lines, but now that I've heard full album a few dozen times I think it's one of the best group of songs I've heard all year.  It's creative, melodic, and has some interesting orchestral arrangements composed with a little help from former Beach Boy collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

Personal favs:

Thus concludes my statement of the night.

Tutorial: How to create "clones" in Photoshop

August 04, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

After I posted my "clone" photos last week, I received quite a few emails asking me how I did it.  So I've decided to throw together a quick tutorial.  Hopefully I can make this clear enough for everyone.  It's really a quick and easy trick to pull off.

To do this you'll need to have Adobe Photoshop (I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS2), a camera, preferably a tripod, and a person to take the picture of.

  1. Decide what you want the subject to do in the photo.  Try to make it interesting.
  2. Set the camera on a tripod.  You'll be taking two photos and you need the background to be the same in both.  If outdoors you need to take the picture fairly quickly so things like lighting and clouds don't change much.  Position your subject for the first photo, then move them for the second without moving the camera or changing the adjustments.  It's easier if the subjects positions aren't overlapping.
  3. Open the two photos into Photoshop.  In the example below I'm attempting to make it appear as though my friend Luis is jumping over himself.  If you don't have photos of your own to use but would still like to give this a try, you can use mine by clicking HERE and HERE.

My mom's a big Keith Urban fan

August 02, 2007 // 1 Comments  // Add yours »

Parts of a video that I shot of my mother and a bunch of other Keith Urban fans at Yale is now playing on the big screen at Keith Urban concerts across the country.  I think it's kinda cool.  She also gets to meet the guy at a concert sometime later this month.  Here's footage with parts of the video playing behind the band at one of the recent shows:

Taking it easy

July 19, 2007 // 0 Comments  // Add yours »

It's been a slow month.  I'm trying to take it easy until I go to Ireland in 3 weeks so I can save up a little extra spending money, so, I'm sorry if things are kinda boring on here until then.

But here's what's new:

  • I have somewhat of an exciting announcement to make once I get back from Ireland.
  • I'll be posting daily updates with pictures and video while I'm out there.
  • My brother Kevin gets to travel to England, Scotland, Whales, and Ireland in the near future with BSA Troop 3 from Derby.  They'll be posting daily updates on their blog at Troop3Derby.org.
  • Sally Jessy Raphael requested me to be her friend on Facebook yesterday. Ha!
  • I've been spending a lot of my free time hiking, biking, kayaking, hanging out at Starbucks, and trying to get better with photography.  If anybody ever wants to join me, be my guest.

And finally, here's a picture of me on the set of Indiana Jones 4.   I'm by the tree:

By for now.
