Scouts needed to help with "Harvest House"

New Troop T-shirt now available

The t-shirts are in! The t-shirts are in!

The Sept 23rd Troop 3 Patrol Leader's Council Meeting included the introduction of the new Troop t-shirt design. As you can see above, the design is a red and white baseball style three-quarter length sleeve jersey with Troop 3 Derby, est. 1914 and fleur de lis on the front and "3" on the back.

The shirts will be available at the Sept 26 troop meeting and cost $8 each or two for $15. All sizes are available while supplies last and the goal is to have everyone wear them at the Fall Camporee on Saturday, October 13.

If paying by check the check should be made payable to BSA Troop 3. Be sure to get your new troop 3 t-shirt on Wednesday when you register for the Fall Camporee (registration early bird deadline $5 fee is this Wednesday too).

When: Oct 12-14, 2007

Why: To demonstrate scouting skills, patrol teamwork and leadership while having fun.

How: Sign up with Mr. Oppel. Early bird Registration by Sept 19, the fee is $5, after Sept 19 the fee is $9.

Eagle Scout Scholarship - CT Sons of American Revolution

The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted.  College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.  Three cash scholarship awards are given: As the National First Place winner - $8,000.00; Runner-up - $4,000.00; 2nd runner-up - $2,000.00.  You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements but no more than $8,000.00 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.

Popcorn Fundraising

Troop 3 Popcorn "Kernel" Cindy Tracz requests all parents and scouts to sign up for Show & Sell Popcorn sales at both Walmart & Blockbuster Video in Seymour. We don't have anyone signed up for this Saturday, Sept 15, from 3-9 at Blockbuster. This is a great way to earn funds for summer camp and our Seabase '08 trip. Rodman Kneen to be honored, Fire Truck added to Ed Strang Scout Day on the Derby Green

DERBY -  Housatonic Council's Cub Scout Pack 3, Boy Scout Troop 3 and Venture Crew 33 will host an event on the Derby Green to introduce the adventures of scouting to the public. The free event, to be held on Saturday, September 15 from 10AM to 2PM is titled "Ed Strang Day on the Derby, Green". The event is held by the scouts annually in honor of the late Scouting pioneer and recent Derby Hall of Fame inductee Edmund D. Strang, who was the driving force behind Scouting in the Valley for 70 years.
Events at the September 15 event include a rope bridge walk, obstacle course, CPR demonstration, crafts, games, model campsite and dutch oven cooking. Slide shows of the scouts at summer camp and their recent 16 day trip through the United Kingdom and Ireland will also be shown. The Derby Fire Department has also agreed to participate and will have a fire truck on display.

A special ceremony will take place at Noon to present Mr. Rodman Kneen Sr. with a pin recognizing his 75 years in the Scouting program. Kneen, 83, of Shelton, joined Pack 3 as a Cub Scout in 1932, became an Eagle Scout in Troop 3 and was a charter member of Explorer Post 33 in 1938. He served as Post Advisor for more than 50 years and is currently serves as the Committee Chairman.

Troop 3, Pack 3 and Venture Crew 33 will offer free Scouting registration at Ed Strang Day for any boys interested in joining any of the three Scout units. A parent or guardian must be present to complete the Scouting application.
