  Oct 30 Troop Halloween Costume Party & Games night, bring a bag of individually wrapped candy. Prizes for best costumes. All-Game night, good time to bring a friend (worth 200 points each for up to 5 friends).

Care package for someone serving in the military abroad is due by each patrol on Nov 5. Also include a thank you letter from your patrol along with your mailing address. Please also provide the mailing addresses for any service men or women you may know by Nov 5.

Nov 1 Scouting for food flyer dropoff, Pack 3 can use help. Contact Cubmaster Dan Cyrul ( mcyrul@snet.net or 305-7024) if you can help. Worth 200 points for participating.

Nov 8 Scouting for Food pickup - We will meet at St. Mary Church, Derby at 11AM to retrieve food donations from our assigned routes. Parents needed to help drive scouts on the pickup routes.

Nov 8 Macaroni & Meatball fundraiser at St. Mary's Church in Derby to benefit Housatonic Council. Registration form attached, RSVP and payment must be in by Nov 5. Troop 3 Scouts who work at the event will not have to pay for a meal. We are also asking for families to donate a dessert tray with 30 of the same item for the mixed dessert trays we will make (drop off tray at 11AM on Nov 8, or a gift basket valued at $50 for the raffle. Holiday Pie Sale: Have begun. Orders and money due by Nov 12. See Pie Czar Linda Spinetti for more information. 

NEW: Nov 14 to 15: Troop camping overnighter at the Poppa's and day hike at Osbornedale State Park. Open to ALL Troop 3 scouts. We will camp at the Poppa's on Derby Neck Rd beginning at 6PM on Nov 14 and we will hike the trails of Osbornedale on Nov 15, finishing at 2PM. Breakfast will be provided, each scout to bring a bagged lunch and canteen of water.

Nov 15 Scrap 'n Chat Fundraiser for Housatonic Council. First United Methodist Church, Shelton. $40 all day 9-5, $30 half day. For more information contact Scrapbooking Queen Sue Stankye, 736-9539.

Only 5 Tickets left for Brian Dennehy's Nov 15 performance of "Hughie" at Long Wharf Theater. Tickets are $50 and we will be meeting with Brian after the performance. See Randy.

Nov. 27 6th Annual Commodore Hull 5k Road Race: In an effort to promote "A Scout is Physically Strong", Troop 3 Assistant Scoutmaster Edward Faulkner is offering to sponsor any Troop 3 Scout who registers and runs in the Thanksgiving morning 5K road race through Shelton and Derby. Registration is limited to first 600 runners. Ed Strang Day on Sunday rain or shine

Our 15th Annual Ed Strang Community Day will take place on Sunday, Sept 28, rain or shine.
In the case of wet weather the event will take place inside of the Derby 2nd Congregational Church.

Please be sure to arrive in Class A uniform at 10AM for setup. The public is invited from noon to 4PM.  Scouts are encouraged to bring their friends and will earn 200 points for each scout age friend to attend.

Troop Meetings resume Wed Sept 3

  Troop 3 kicks off its 95th year of Scouting on Wed Sept 3, 7PM with a hot dog roast at the Derby 2nd Congregational Church. We will also announce and distribute the troop's annual calendar of events, organized by the patrol leader's council.

$25 troop dues is now due and will be collected at the meeting as will payments and deposits on the 2009 Canyon Adventure super trip.

Scouting for food - food pickup

Calling all Scouts, Leaders and parents;

Our troop will be picking up the Scouting for food bags on Saturday Nov 10, beginning at 11AM. We will meet at the 2nd Congregational Church and bring the food to the Scout Office drop off point for boxing and delivering to the food distribution centers throughout the valley. Wear your Troop t shirt.

Both flyer dropoff and bag pickup days will count towards community service hours and troop events required for rank advancement.

Each patrol is expected to have at least one parent driver.

Scouts needed to help with "Harvest House"

  The Valley United Way is in need of Scouts to help unload food for the "Harvest House" food drive this Saturday, September 29th starting at between 7:30 - 8:00 AM.

Annual Troop 3 Calendar Planning Session

Who: Senior Patrol Leader, ASPL's and Patrol Leaders

Where: Derby 2nd Congregational Church

When: Saturday, Aug 25, Noon to 2PM

Why: To plan out our year of Scouting themes, events, activities and trips

How: Arrive in casual clothes with your Patrol Leader's notebook and a pencil or pen. Represent your patrol by bringing interesting ideas for themes, troop meetings, camping trips...etc  The success of our scouting year is dependent on YOUR participation and ideas.

Our first Troop meeting will be on September 5, 7-8:30PM and first PLC meeting will be on Sunday Sept 9, 7-8PM, both at the Derby 2nd Congregational Church. 

Please plan to have an organizational patrol meeting between Aug 26 and Sept 4. New patrol rosters will be distributed at the calendar planning session.

English Exchange Scouts

Chris Green and Paul Smedley, members of the Medehamstede Explorer Scouts from Peterborough, England, were guests of Troop 3 for 3 weeks this summer. In additon to attending a week of summer camp with us at Ed Strang Scout Reservation they also were hosted by several Troop 3 families who provided them with American hospitality.

Many thanks to the Thompsons, Mahans, Poppas, Stankyes and Herdes for being terrific hosts and to Mrs. Thompson for coordinating the exchange hosts. Also, many thanks to Mr. Martin Hall who arranged  the exchange from Peterborough, and to Dr. Robert Feeney, a Troop 3 alumnus who supports our International Exchange Scout program.  Scouts can contact Chris at Green_508@hotmail.com and Paul at smeds@hotmail.co.uk   Our WISE trip scouts hope to visit with Chris and Paul when we visit the World Scout Jamboree.

Final Troop meeting - Derby History Scavenger Hunt & 2008 Super Trip Presentation this Wednesday

The final Troop 3 meeting until September will take place this Wednesday 7-8:30PM at the Derby 2nd Congregational Church.

The merit badge library will be open for scouts to check out merit badge books they would like to borrow for summer camp (or you can purchase them at the camp trading post).  Camp tent mates will be finalized and MANDATORY medical forms and permission slips will be collected.

The annual Derby History Patrol Scavenger Hunt will take place and a prize will be awarded to the winning patrol. Class A uniforms required.

There will also be a brief presentation highlighting Troop 3's 2008 summer trip. Hint: Captain Jack Sparrow. A $100 deposit (can be taken from your troop account) will reserve your spot and signups with deposit will be first come first serve beginning Wed. night. The cost will be approx $1200. You must be 14 by Sept. 1, 2008 to qualify for this trip (more than 75% of the troop qualifies) and attend a week at Strang Scout Reservation in 2008.

Don't miss out on the final troop meeting. Patrol leaders, please remind your patrol members.

June 19 - First Summer Concert on the Derby Green. Working scouts must wear troop 3 t-shirts. Concerts continue every Tuesday (Wed. if it rains) throughout the summer. Scouts who work will funds.
June 24 - Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Jim Blaskewicz, 1PM at Hilltop Hose Fire House, Puluski Highway, Ansonia.
